L’argus Awards 2023 — The special jury prize

L’argus Awards 2023: who will receive the special jury prize?

Published by L’ARGUS on 9 February 2023

After recognising passenger cars and commercial vehicles, our jurors will vote for their favourite of the year from thirteen contenders. Concept cars, hand-built models and rebodied vehicles make the choice as broad as it is appealing, and particularly difficult.

Each year, the L’argus Awards recognise the best new vehicles in their categories. Eligible models are new generations, not facelifts, launched during 2022. Alongside these awards, the jury gives a special prize that sets rational criteria aside in favour of a concept car, an unconventional model or a carefully hand-built vehicle. This year, manufacturers and craftspeople have been especially inspired.

Citroën offers a choice between the unusual Oli concept and the Caselani 2CV Fourgonnette, an Italian coachbuilder’s transformation of a new Berlingo into a modern-day 2CV. Renault also draws on nostalgia with the 4Ever Trophy, previewing a new Renault 4, and the electric, drift-loving R5 Turbo 3E. Alpine is represented by its official Alpenglow concept and by the Ravage Groupe 4, a beautiful reinterpretation of the rally berlinettes based on the modern Alpine A110. It is the work of passionate craftspeople, as is the Devalliet Mugello, a neo-retro roadster assembled in the Vercors.

This year, manufacturers and craftspeople have been especially inspired.

The charming Microlino and lively Dacia Manifesto concept also compete. Other contenders take a more rational approach, pointing towards the near or distant future.

They include the Skoda Vision 7S electric SUV, the Mercedes EQXX with its 1,000 km range, and Volkswagen Group’s Gen.Travel, in which the driver becomes just another passenger. With our jurors’ varied perspectives, the debate promises to be lively.

How does the vote work?

Voting takes place in two stages. An internal first round brings together the editorial journalists and valuation and reference-data experts. It narrows the field to five finalists, to be named at the awards evening on 14 February 2023.

The winner is then chosen in a second round involving both the internal jury and an external panel of journalists from regional and national general-interest media and specialist publications. This diversity of experience gives the awards their legitimacy, independence and strength.
